"We're on a mission from God" ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

In America, you have to be on a mission from god. Otherwise, you’re gonna get smoked.

This society was founded by the strictly adherent, austere Puritans, and was populated by generations that followed: revolutionaries, statesmen, settlers, pioneers, inventors, industrialists and laborers, liberators, world war victors. It's a big land of big opportunity, where the people are equal, individuals that left collective, hereditary Old World lives behind.

North America is a harsh world, whether you've had to confront the unforgiving wilderness, the frontier, slave masters, factory conditions, capital-driven competition, a twisted postmodern culture. How do you keep going under actively harsh, often hostile conditions? It’s not rational. You gotta be on a mission from God.

When asked what comes to mind when you think of "America," some say things like the California lifestyle, vacationland, or the magical world of Disney. That stuff isn't real. It's just art and marketing, trite Americana. Reality is a lot more gritting your teeth, grinding on, and grinning through it.

In America, what’s true, you are free to help yourself. This land is so rich. Plenty and prepossessing natural resources, there is incredible wealth to be had and to go around. For the resourceful and the faithful, indefatigable ones, the battle just may pay off bountifully. The questions of how to survive and how to thrive in this continental society have largely been one/the same.

Are you on a mission? What's your motivation? It doesn't have to be divinely inspired, but that seems to help.
